AMVP Youth Choir
The Youth Choir of the Vilar do Paraíso Music Academy made its debut at the Rivoli Theater in Porto in 1984, under the direction of maestro José de Castro, who dedicated himself to directing it for over twenty years.
Since its foundation, this choir has participated in several concerts and choir meetings inside and outside the country, including: European Youth Music Festivals (Neerpelt, 1986, 1994, 1996, 2002), where it won two first places and one first prize cum laude, 3rd Festival of Choral Music of Neuchatel (Switzerland, 1989), where it obtained an honorable mention, International Music Festivals for Young People of Vila Nova de Gaia, Festival of Choirs of Madeira, Concert 1001 Musicians (CCB- Lisbon, 2007 and 2008), Concert in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid, 2008), Opening Gala of the World School Sports Championship (Fafe, 2009), Rotary Club Gaia Concerts (Espinho, 2010, 2012 and 2013), Guimarães Capital Closing Concert Cultural Festival (Guimarães, 2012), Bla la la Festival, exchange with Choeur Maîtrisien Wasquehal (Gaia, 2013), John Rutter’s “Requiem” concert (Gaia, 2013), Concerts in Lille, exchange with Choeur Maîtrisien Wasquehal ( Lille, 2013), Concert “Requiem” by Bob Chilcot (Gaia, 2014), Children’s Opera “The Legend of the Three Trees” by Allen Pote (Casa da Música- Porto, 2018), Opera “The Magic Flute” by W. Amadeus Mozart – reduced version (Gaia, 2019).
The choir was conductor Bruno Pereira between 2007 and 2018, with the exception of the years 2009 and 2010 when it was directed by Iryna Horbatyuk. With a varied repertoire, this choir is currently a discipline of the basic and secondary music course of our academy and is composed of about thirty young people aged between 14 and 18 years.
Since 2018, it has Patrícia Quinta as its conductor and Pedro Ludgero as an accompanying pianist.
