The Academic Choir of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology
The Academic Choir of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology has existed since 1970 and is one of the cultural institutions of the university.
The choir has several dozen members, including students, graduates, and employees of both the Wrocław University of Science and Technology and other higher education institutions of Wrocław.
Despite their diverse interests, education, and age, the members of the Academic Choir of the WUST form a group of friends united by a common passion for singing.
The choir’s repertoire is varied and includes many forms, genres, and styles, ranging from early music to works by contemporary Polish and foreign composers.
The choir performs both a cappella pieces and vocal[1]instrumental masterpieces with the participation of symphony orchestras and soloists, such as Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem, and Antonín Dvořák’s Stabat Mater.
The choir regularly collaborates with cultural institutions in Wrocław and Lower Silesia (National Forum of Music in Wrocław, Wroclaw Opera, Sudeten Philharmonic in Wałbrzych, Lower Silesian Philharmonic in Jelenia Góra, Polish Theater in Wrocław, and Capitol Music Theater in Wrocław) and participates in national and international projects, such as Singing Europe (2015, 2016), the super-shows of the Wroclaw Opera (2017, 2018, 2019), and the Gala of the Stage Songs Review (PPA 2022).
The choir is the recipient of many prestigious awards for its contributions to promoting culture (“Gloria Artis Medal for Merit to Culture”, 2020) as well as numerous awards, and medals at music festivals and competitions in Poland and Europe.
The choir’s latest success is winning the Second Prize and the Rector of the Kielce University of Technology Award at the VI International Academic Choir Review “Holy Cross 2022” in July 2022.
The choir’s discography includes recordings such as A cappella (1995, 2008), “Dzieciątko się narodziło” (2008), and “Pater noster” (2014).
Since 1974, the choir has been the organizer of the Barbórka Academic Choir Festival in Wrocław.
