The Maysupí Choir from Montevideo is an amateur polyphonic choir, founded in 2007.
Its objective is the study and dissemination of the universal choral repertoire, as a living expression of the strengthening of social and cultural ties.
It offers annual choral training activities with qualified teachers from Uruguay.
Every year it organises the prestigious “San Juan en Polifonía” sacred music festival, which brings together top-level Uruguayan choirs.
It also organises an annual Christmas festival, an event that takes place during the month of December in various locations throughout the country.
The Maysupí Choir from Montevideo has made several international tours, giving concerts in famous historical places.
2010- Spain (Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga, Santiago de Compostela).
2012- Argentina (Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires).
2014- Festival Corearte Brasil (Caxias do Sul, Gramado, Canela)
2016-Courtial International (Rome, Venice, Florence, Assisi,)
2016-MRF Music Festival Hungary (Budapest)
2018-Tour in Mexico where the choir performed in the main cathedrals of Mexico City, Puebla, Taxco, etc.
The choir is composed of 20 members, divided into 4 sections, sopranos, altos, tenors and basses.
Its founder and current director is Maestra Marta Pereira.
Its repertoire consists mainly of works of universal sacred polyphony, from the Middle Ages to the present day.
In 2010, the Maysupí Choir was declared to be of departmental, cultural and national interest by the Presidency of the Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Culture.
