Méounes les Montrieux
Méounes Vocal Ensemble – France
International Choir Competition & Festival in Provence 2025
Méounes-lès-Montrieux, this small Provencal village, between the sea and the Sainte Baume massif, enjoys an active community life. The vocal ensemble was founded in 1997 by Claudine Clément, Choirmaster and President.
In 2011, it was succeeded by a group of passionate choristers, with a new President and Frédéric Verfaillie, the new Choirmaster.
Today, President Philippe Bédague and all the choristers, divided into four sections : soprano, alti, tenor and bass, share with their conductor the pleasure of tackling all periods and styles of repertoire with equal pleasure.
Over the years, the Ensemble Vocal has given many concerts in the region, far from home and even at sea.
The Ensemble is regularly accompanied on the piano by Laurent Signorini, a former musician with the Toulon-based Musique des Equipages de la Flotte, who now teaches piano at the Toulon Provence Méditerranée Conservatoire.
Thanks to the support of the Méounes local authority and the Conseil Départemental, the Vocal Ensemble is able to continue its activities with peace of mind, offering anyone with a love of singing and music the chance to join a lively and welcoming group.
Its repertoire is very eclectic. It ranges from classical works to sacred songs, and includes secular, contemporary and popular music. It is this diversity that enables us to reach the widest possible audience.
Frédéric Verfaillie, Conductor
Attracted to music at an early age, Frédéric VERFAILLIE began his musical studies at the Académie de Musique de Dunkerque, where he acquired a solid grounding. He was also a ‘Petit Chanteur ″ with the Manécanterie des ’Rossignolets du Val des Roses ″ affiliated to the Petits Chanteurs à la Croix de Bois.
He perfected his classical studies in viola, clarinet, music theory, chamber music and composition at the Conservatoire National de Région in Lille and then Boulogne-Billancourt.
After completing his musical studies, he held various teaching posts in music schools in the Dunkirk region.
In 1981, he joined the Toulon Naval Band as a clarinettist. At the same time, he worked as a music teacher and trained as a choral conductor, taking courses in choral and orchestral conducting.
He was able to pursue his passion for choral singing from 1991, when he was in demand as a choral conductor in several choirs in the Toulon region.
Since 2011, he has been directing the Ensemble Vocal de Méounes, where he tackles all the styles and periods of the repertoire with equal enthusiasm.
