Sextet plus
Sextet plus is a male vocal ensemble, formed in 2006 at the high school in Nový Jičín.
Over the past 17 years, many singers have passed through the ensemble, the current line-up of Sextet plus is composed of: Matyáš Kaňa, Vojtěch Urban, Marek Sopuch, Jan Bártek, David Sochor, Daniel Florea Najvar, Radek Dostál, Jakub Theo Dostál and artistic director Karel Dostál.
In the course of its existence, Sextet plus has released 3 solo CDs, the repertoire includes folk songs, classical choral compositions, but also popular songs and barbershop.
Important concerts of Sextet plus include
– performance in the Czech pavilion at EXPO2020 (Dubai, 2022)
– performance on Czech television (programme Good morning, 2013)
– guest at the Kaunas Cantat International Festival (2014)
– performance on Czech radio in the programme Tobogan (National Museum, 2018)
– performance at the Czech-Japanese concert at the Rudolfinum (Prague, 2019)
Sextet plus has won numerous awards at international festivals:

The members of Sextet plus sing with love, they are united by a common goal – to give listeners the joy of vocal music.
Karel Dostál, Choirmaster
He studied music and physical education at Palacký University in Olomouc and Masaryk University in Brno. During his studies he was a member of the Academic Choir Žerotín (Olomouc), Capella Maravia (Brno) and the Olomouc Chamber Choir (OKS).
He has worked as an external chorister in the opera choir of the Moravian Opera in Olomouc.
Since 1997 he has been the conductor of the children’s choir “Morning Star” in Nový Jičín and in 2006 he became the conductor of the mixed choir Puellae et Pueri and the artistic director of the boys’ vocal ensemble Sextet plus.
In 2022, he received his doctorate from Palacký University in Olomouc in the field of music theory and pedagogy.
He has been working at the secondary school in Nový Jičín for 17 years.
