The Choir of the Warsaw University of Economics – Poland
The choir has been existing for over forty years, but it owes its current form to its conductor, Tomasz Hynek, who revived the group in 1993. While mostly of the members are students and alumni, it has also attracted many singers not directly related to the university. The choir performs great classical works as well as recent compositions, and has made a name for itself with bold interpretations of popular tunes.
Over the last 16 years the group has won many awards, including first place in the University Choir category at the 7th International d’Apskie Te Deum Religious Music Festival, first place and the Golden Lyre at the 4th Varsovia Cantus International Warsaw Choral Festival and the Grand Prix at the Vivat Academia Masovian University Choir Festival. It has also collaborated with other choirs, performing Karol Szymanowski’s Stabat Mater for the first anniversary of John Paul II’s death (together with the Warsaw University Choir) and taking part in the European Christmas Carol Gala at the National Opera. The choir was enthusiastically received at concerts in Germany and Switzerland, as a special guest in Portugal, and distinguished itself in prestigious international competitions in Italy and Ireland. It has recorded four albums: Debut, Passion, Gospel Mass, Bach Lassus.
